FCA action against Finfluencers

The FCA has significantly stepped up its crackdown on so-called finfluencers.

New figures show enforcement action increased by 174 percent in 2025, with 74 interventions compared to 27 the previous year. The focus is on tackling misleading or unauthorised financial promotions across social media and other online platforms, as the regulator responds to growing consumer harm in the digital advice space.

This sharp rise reflects a wider problem. A large volume of financial content is being produced by unqualified or unregulated individuals, often presenting opinion or marketing as credible advice. For consumers, it is increasingly difficult to distinguish between regulated guidance and persuasive but misleading content.

This is exactly where independent oversight matters. Watchdog services can play a key role in identifying patterns of misleading promotions, flagging repeat offenders, and supporting firms and regulators by bringing clarity, evidence and accountability to a crowded and noisy online environment.

For advisers, compliance teams and platforms alike, the message is clear. Digital influence is now firmly within regulatory scope, and robust monitoring is no longer optional.
