📉 UK Business Insolvencies Rise Again in May

New data shows that 2,238 companies in England and Wales entered insolvency in May 2025 — up 15% year-on-year and 8% on April.

🔹 The majority (77%) were creditor voluntary liquidations (CVLs)

🔹 Administrations and compulsory liquidations also rose

🔹 CVAs dropped by 26% vs last year

Persistent pressures — including inflation, higher wages, business rates, and weak consumer demand — are taking a visible toll. While insolvency levels remain below the 2008–09 crisis peak, the upward trend highlights the growing strain on UK businesses.
